How close do you live to a forest? And can you really call it a forest? To date, Flanders is the least forested region in Europe. However, trees are very useful and easy to use to tackle a variety of problems. They provide the necessary cooling during the increasingly hotter summers. They keep the soil together better, making them a buffer against the increasingly intense erosion of our soil. They also ensure that soils evaporate less quickly because the top layer of a forest is covered with humus and vegetation. They also capture a lot of CO2 that would otherwise remain in the atmosphere. And if that is not enough: they offer a beautiful landscape element where it is wonderful to stay and relax.
With that knowledge, Vonken took on the ambition from day 1 to plant a tree for every oven sold. For example, Vonken set up a piece of meadow with standard trees, fruit trees and hedges in Zwevegem and could count on the help of twenty volunteers. A first successful tree planting campaign, and we look forward to the next one!
